Cagliari's Trepy on Ventilator After Swimming Pool Accident in Sardinia

Yael Trepy, the 20-year-old Cagliari and Serie A forward, is in hospital on a ventilator and under pharmacological sedation after losing consciousness in a swimming pool in Sardinia on Sunday.
The player was pulled from the pool at a private villa and airlifted to the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari, where he is receiving treatment.
On Tuesday, Cagliari published a medical update from the hospital. The statement reported that Trepy is now fever free and that his respiratory function has shown improvement since he was admitted in a severe condition.
Doctors indicated that a gradual reduction in sedation will be considered should his recovery continue on the same trajectory. Despite the encouraging signs, the hospital statement was clear: "The prognosis remains guarded."
BBC Sport has learned that Trepy was in the pool with a group of friends when he ran into difficulty after drifting into a deeper section where he could no longer stand.
The incident occurred during a scheduled rest period for Cagliari players following their 1-0 Coppa Italia victory over Arezzo on Friday, a match in which Trepy featured for 54 minutes.
The young forward made eight Serie A appearances last season, scoring once, after coming through the Cagliari academy. He joined the club's youth setup in 2022, having previously developed at Parisian club US Creteil-Lusitanos.
