Canada Earn Historic First World Cup Point With Late Equaliser Against Bosnia-Herzegovina

Canada have secured their first-ever World Cup point after battling back from a goal down to hold Bosnia-Herzegovina to a 1-1 draw at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
It is a milestone 40 years in the making. Canada's only previous World Cup appearance before this tournament came at Mexico 1986, where they exited without a single point from three group games. They returned in Qatar 2022 and suffered the same fate, again losing all three group matches.
On this occasion, however, the co-hosts refused to fold — even as Bosnia-Herzegovina threatened to spoil the occasion early on.
Bosnia lead through Lukic header
Jovo Lukic gave Bosnia-Herzegovina the lead with a close-range header from a corner, and for long stretches it appeared Canada's wait for a first World Cup point would extend further. Jesse Marsch's side created chances but could not convert — Jonathan David and Tani Oluwaseyi both squandering clear opportunities in the first half.
The frustration deepened in the second half as Sead Kolasinac — the former Arsenal defender — and Nikola Katic both cleared off the line to deny Canada an equaliser. Bosnia-Herzegovina's resistance looked set to hold.
Larin's debut touch settles the score
Then came Cyle Larin. The Southampton striker entered the pitch and, just 121 seconds after stepping on, converted from inside the box to send Toronto into delirium. The goal earned Canada a point they had been chasing for four decades.
The result marks the first time Canada have ever left a World Cup match with anything to show for their efforts — a moment that will resonate deeply with a nation hosting the tournament for the first time.
