Carlos Queiroz has been reappointed as head coach of Ghana, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed, handing the 73-year-old a second stint in charge of the Black Stars.

Queiroz first took the reins in April and guided Ghana through this year's FIFA World Cup, where they reached the last 32 before falling 1-0 to Colombia. In the immediate aftermath of that exit, Queiroz appeared to signal his own departure via social media — but the GFA moved to bring him back following internal deliberations.

The GFA has not disclosed the duration of his new contract, stating only that Queiroz will steer the team through "a successful new phase on the international stage."

"The GFA believes Queiroz's extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter," the association said in a statement.

The Portuguese coach brings a wealth of global experience to the role. He has previously managed Iran, Portugal, and Egypt at major tournaments, and has also taken charge of South Africa, Colombia, and Qatar at various points in his career. His time as assistant manager at Manchester United — across two spells under Sir Alex Ferguson — further cemented his reputation as one of football's most seasoned football minds.

AFCON qualifiers the immediate priority

Queiroz's second chapter begins with urgency. The Black Stars face qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with fixtures scheduled to kick off later this month. Ghana have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia, and Somalia.

The dates and venues for their opening two Group C matches have yet to be confirmed. The GFA has indicated that further details on Queiroz's mandate will be released in due course.
