Carragher Urges Liverpool to Welcome Back Trent Alexander-Arnold Amid Real Madrid Struggles

Jamie Carragher has called on Liverpool to consider re-signing Trent Alexander-Arnold, insisting the former Reds right-back made a serious error in judgment when he departed for Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold left Anfield on a free transfer at the end of the 2024/25 season, having helped Liverpool claim the Premier League title under manager Arne Slot. His exit followed a drawn-out contract dispute that left a sour taste among supporters, and he headed to La Liga carrying pointed criticism from the fanbase he grew up supporting.
Falling down the pecking order
Under returning Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, Alexander-Arnold has found first-team football increasingly hard to come by. He has started only three La Liga matches this season — fewer than 270 minutes of action — and made just one appearance in the Champions League since Mourinho took charge.
The depth of his predicament was laid bare in El Clasico at the weekend, when Federico Valverde, Real Madrid's captain, was deployed at right-back against Barcelona. New signing Denzel Dumfries came on as a substitute around the hour mark, while Alexander-Arnold was absent from the matchday squad entirely.
