Carvajal Signs for Getafe After Real Madrid Exit

1 hour ago·1 min

Dani Carvajal has found a new home, joining Getafe on a free transfer after his contract at Real Madrid expired in June. The former captain departs the Bernabéu as one of the most decorated players in football history, having lifted 27 major trophies during his 23 years at the club — including six UEFA Champions League titles.

Getafe, who currently occupy 11th place in La Liga, have signed the 34-year-old right-back on a deal running until the end of June next year. The club are based in the south of Madrid and welcomed Carvajal for his "experience and leadership."

A decorated career overshadowed by injury

At international level, Carvajal earned 51 caps for Spain, playing a role in their UEFA Nations League victory in 2023 and their European Championship triumph in 2024.

However, his final years at Real Madrid were marked by serious physical setbacks. A cruciate ligament tear suffered in October 2024 kept him sidelined for an extended period, and a further serious knee injury followed a year later.

The arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid last summer compounded his difficulties, restricting his opportunities in what proved to be his final season at the club. Despite those challenges, Getafe have moved to bring the veteran defender's experience into their squad as they look to push up La Liga's table.
