Celtic will face Austrian champions LASK in the Champions League play-off round, with a place in the competition's league phase at stake. The draw, made on Monday, also confirmed the European play-off routes for Brighton, Rangers, Hearts, Hibernian, and Motherwell.

Celtic's path to the Champions League

Martin O'Neill's Celtic will host the first leg against LASK on August 18 or 19, with the return fixture in Austria on August 25 or 26. Should Celtic fall at this stage, they would drop into the Europa League's league phase rather than exit European competition entirely.

Brighton's Conference League challenge

Brighton, who finished eighth in the Premier League last season, must overcome either Romanian side CFR Cluj or Norwegian club Tromso to reach the Conference League's league phase. The first leg takes place on August 20, with Brighton hosting the return on August 27 — sandwiched around their Premier League opener against Aston Villa on August 23, live on Sky Sports.

Rangers and Hearts in the Europa League

Rangers must first navigate their third-round qualifying tie against Jagiellonia Bialystok in Poland, with the first leg on Thursday. If Derek McInnes' side progress, they will face either Northern Irish champions Larne or Georgia's Iberia 1999 in the play-offs, with the first leg at Ibrox on August 20.

Hearts, who dropped into the Europa League following their Champions League exit, have been paired with AGF Aarhus of Denmark or Sabah of Azerbaijan in the play-off draw. The first leg would be held at Tynecastle Park on August 20. However, Wouter Vrancken's side must first eliminate Benfica — a formidable task that begins with an away trip to Portugal on Thursday.

Both Rangers and Hearts are guaranteed a Conference League play-off berth if they lose at the Europa League play-off stage. Rangers would face Jablonec or RFS, while Hearts would meet Paide or SK Rapid. As a result, both clubs have requested that their Scottish Premiership fixture between the two play-off legs be postponed — meaning the Rangers vs St Mirren match and Hearts' trip to Falkirk are to be rescheduled.

Motherwell and Hibernian's Conference League draws

Motherwell could face Bundesliga club Freiburg — last season's Europa League finalists — in the Conference League play-off round, provided Alfred Johansson's side beat HJK Helsinki. The first leg is in Finland on Wednesday, with the return at Fir Park on August 13.

Hibernian will take on IFK Gothenburg or Gent in the Conference League play-offs if they defeat KF Shkendija. Hibs host Shkendija on Thursday, with the second leg on August 13. All Conference League play-off ties are scheduled for August 20 and 27.
