Principal shareholder Dermot Desmond is also set to speak with interim manager Martin O'Neill to determine whether the former Celtic boss has any desire to continue at the club in some capacity.

Across the city, Rangers have made direct contact with representatives of Hampus Skoglund, the right-back currently contracted to Swedish club Hammarby. Skoglund has three years remaining on his deal at Hammarby.
