Celtic are pushing hard to strengthen their squad before the transfer window slams shut, with several targets either undergoing medicals or arriving in Glasgow to finalise deals.

Midfield and goalkeeping business

Parma midfielder Oliver Sorensen, 24, has completed a medical in London ahead of a loan move to Celtic, while PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joel van den Berg, 19, has travelled to Glasgow to wrap up a permanent transfer worth £3.4m.

In goal, Celtic are in discussions with Wolverhampton Wanderers over a loan deal for former England international Sam Johnstone, 33. Reports also indicate the club may revisit their interest in Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Balazs Toth, 28, should the Johnstone move fall through.

Celtic's pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt full-back Niels Nkounkou, 25, is also gathering pace. The left-back had been expected to join Nice before Celtic moved to hijack the deal.

Setbacks and long shots

Not everything is going smoothly for Celtic. Torino turned down a Celtic offer for Lithuanian midfielder Gvidas Gineitis, 22, over the weekend. Without a significantly improved bid, Gineitis is set to remain in Serie A.

Celtic have also monitored Southampton right-back Yukinari Sugawara, 26, but the Japan international looks likely to head to Cagliari on loan instead. Additionally, the club have been made aware of a potential loan opportunity for 19-year-old Chelsea winger Kendry Paez.

Rangers, Hearts, and Hibernian also active

Across the city, striker Kevin Kelsy was undergoing a medical on Monday ahead of a move to Rangers, after a deal worth around £9m was agreed with Portland Timbers. Former Rangers captain James Tavernier, meanwhile, has agreed to join Maccabi Tel Aviv, who are managed by ex-Ibrox striker Kenny Miller.

At Hearts, five players are attracting transfer interest, with striker Claudio Braga valued at over £8m by the Tynecastle club. Hearts are also targeting 18-year-old midfielder Leart Kabashi from Grasshopper Zurich.

Hibernian, for their part, are keen to bring in Nottingham Forest defender Zach Abbott, 20, on loan, though they face competition from clubs in the English Championship.
