Cesar Ramos Named Referee for Scotland vs Brazil at the 2026 World Cup

Mexican referee Cesar Ramos will take charge of the Group C clash between Scotland and Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with kick-off scheduled for 11pm British time at the Miami Stadium.
What is at stake in Group C
The match carries considerable weight. Brazil currently lead Group C on four points — level with Morocco but ahead on goal difference — while Scotland sit third with three points. A Scotland win, combined with a Haiti upset over Morocco, would send the Tartan Army to the top of the table.
Scotland's presence in a decisive group-stage match is itself a milestone: the side claimed their first World Cup victory in 36 years in their opener against Haiti, and a strong following is expected in Miami this evening.
Ramos' World Cup record
This fixture will be Ramos' sixth appearance as a referee at the World Cup, a competition in which he has averaged two bookings per game. In his domestic league, he has overseen 144 matches in Liga MX, Apertura, where that average climbs to five bookings per match.
Notably, Ramos has previous history with both nations involved in tonight's fixture. At the 2018 World Cup, Brazil lodged a complaint against him after he chose not to award a foul in the build-up to an opposition goal during their group opener. Four years later, in the 2022 semi-final between Morocco and France, Morocco filed their own complaint, alleging that Ramos had failed to award what they considered clear penalties.
Officials for the match
Ramos will be supported on the lines by fellow Mexicans Alberto Morin and Marco Bisguerra. Norway's Espen Eskas has been appointed as the fourth official. VAR assignments for the match had not been confirmed at the time of publication.
