Chelle Names Ozebagbe and Ortega as Olympic Eagles Assistant Coaches

1 hour ago·1 min

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has confirmed the appointment of Bright Ozebagbe and Deniran Ortega as assistant coaches for the Nigeria Olympic Eagles, the under-23 national side he also manages.

Chelle described the two as among the brightest young coaches in Nigeria, citing their impressive profiles as his reason for selecting them to join his technical staff for the Olympic team.

Who are the new assistants?

Ozebagbe currently serves as Technical Adviser at Nigerian Premier League club Ikorodu City, who came agonisingly close to securing a CAF continental ticket on the final day of last season.

Ortega holds a UEFA coaching licence, having trained under the Scottish Football Association. He is already part of the Nigeria Flying Eagles coaching staff, working with the country's under-20 side.

Road to Los Angeles 2026

Chelle has already presented his plans and preparations to the leadership of the National Sports Commission ahead of the qualification campaign. A training camp in Abuja is expected to open shortly, with the team's qualifying fixtures scheduled for November 2026.

Both the men's and women's Olympic football teams fall under the oversight of the National Sports Commission. The NSC has set an ambitious target — not only to qualify Nigeria's football teams for the Los Angeles Olympics, but to push for a podium finish once there.
