Nigeria Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has raised concerns over the team's limited preparation time ahead of their 2027 AFCON qualifier against Guinea-Bissau, with the Group L, matchday 2 fixture scheduled for Tuesday in Bissau.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Monday, Chelle pointed to the congested FIFA international window as a key obstacle to proper team preparation.

"We didn't have enough training sessions to work a lot and this is the problem of this kind of FIFA window. You have only one or two training sessions to prepare, after that you have one or two training sessions to recover and you have to travel."

The Super Eagles arrived in Bissau on Sunday evening following just two days of training in Uyo. Several foreign-based players also reported late to camp because of club commitments, further tightening the preparation window.

Chelle backs his side to fight

Despite the disrupted buildup, Chelle remained firm that the Super Eagles will compete for all three points against the Djurtus.

Guinea-Bissau head into the match in strong form, sitting top of Group L after a 2-0 away victory over Tanzania on matchday 1. Chelle acknowledged the challenge his side faces.

"Guinea-Bissau have a great team and they have some players who play in Europa, so this is a big game. The most important thing for us is to try to go forward, try to get the victory — but it would not be easy."

He urged his players to remain mentally switched on, adding: "We have to stay focused on our group and our state of mind, which is the most important thing."

History between the sides

Tuesday's encounter will be the third meeting between the Super Eagles and Guinea-Bissau in AFCON qualifying. Each side claimed victory in one of the previous two meetings, making this a genuine contest with no dominant history to fall back on.
