Chelsea Eye Brighton's Yasin Ayari as Contract Talks Collapse

Chelsea are monitoring Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yasin Ayari amid reports that contract negotiations between the player and the Seagulls have broken down, with Galatasaray also tracking the Sweden international.
Ayari has made an encouraging start to the current Premier League season, contributing two assists in six appearances. His deal at Brighton runs until the end of the 2026–27 campaign, though the club hold an option to extend it by a further 12 months — a clause they have yet to trigger.
Winstanley connection gives Chelsea an edge
Chelsea sporting director Paul Winstanley has a long history with Ayari. Before joining Chelsea in late 2022, Winstanley served as Brighton's Head of Scouting and was among the first to flag Ayari's potential to the club. That insider knowledge now gives the Blues a notable advantage in any pursuit of the midfielder.
For now, Chelsea are in the watching brief stage, keeping their options open ahead of the January transfer window and beyond. Should Brighton opt not to extend Ayari's contract, a formal move could follow.
Galatasaray and Saudi sides also in the mix
Galatasaray — chasing a record fifth consecutive Super Lig title — are among the clubs outside England eyeing Ayari. Saudi Pro League sides are also said to be monitoring his situation, while multiple unnamed Premier League clubs are reportedly in the frame too.
Were Chelsea to complete a deal, Ayari would become the latest in a long line of players to make the move from Brighton to Stamford Bridge. Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro are among those who have previously crossed that well-worn path between the two clubs, with the London side having recruited more than a dozen players and staff from the Seagulls in recent years.
Ayari's future at Brighton remains uncertain, and with contract talks at a standstill, the coming months will be telling.
