Chelsea Sign Honest Ahanor From Atalanta in €48m Deal
Chelsea have wrapped up the signing of teenage defender Honest Ahanor from Serie A side Atalanta, with the deal understood to be worth around €48 million including add-ons, according to Sky Sport Italia.
The 18-year-old will not link up with his new club immediately. Ahanor is expected to spend the 2026/27 campaign on loan at Premier League side Crystal Palace, gaining experience in English football before formally joining Chelsea's first-team setup in 2027.
A breakthrough season in Bergamo
Ahanor made an immediate impression after arriving at Atalanta from Genoa in July 2025, racking up 35 appearances across all competitions in his debut season at the club. His performances were so convincing that Italy came calling, with the defender earning his first two senior caps in June.
The youngster's move to Atalanta had itself turned heads. The fee — approximately €20 million — made him the second-most expensive Italian player under the age of 17 at the time, behind former Genoa and Monaco striker Pietro Pellegri.
Chelsea invest in the future
By moving quickly to secure Ahanor before rival clubs could act, Chelsea have shown their commitment to recruiting elite young talent. The Blues had already seen a Brighton bid for the defender rejected by Atalanta earlier, underscoring how sought-after the teenager had become.
With a loan spell at Crystal Palace lined up to sharpen his development further, Chelsea will hope Ahanor arrives at Stamford Bridge in 2027 ready to challenge for a regular starting berth.
