Christantus Uche faces the prospect of missing the entire 2026/27 season after sustaining a severe knee injury during Getafe's pre-season preparations, according to reports from Complete Sports Nigeria.

The Nigeria international was hurt in a pre-season friendly between Getafe and AS Monaco, the French Ligue 1 side. Getafe responded promptly with a statement on their official website, confirming initial findings from the club's medical staff.

"Following initial tests and clinical examination by the club's medical staff, Christantus Uche was found to have a contusion on the kneecap of his right leg, caused by the blow suffered during the match against AS Monaco. The footballer is awaiting further tests to assess the full extent of the injury. Clinical evolution will determine its availability."

However, the situation has since proved more serious than first indicated. Spanish outlet Diario AS reported that subsequent scans uncovered multiple tears in Uche's right knee, with both the ligaments and menisci severely damaged.

The 23-year-old is now expected to go under the knife — a surgery that would effectively end his 2026/27 campaign before it begins.
