Chukwueze Stars as AC Milan Edge Atalanta in Five-Goal San Siro Thriller
Nigeria's Samuel Chukwueze played his part as AC Milan claimed a hard-fought 3-2 win over Atalanta in a breathless Serie A contest at San Siro on Sunday.
The Super Eagles winger made his sixth Serie A appearance of the season for the Rossoneri, bringing two assists to his name in the campaign so far. He delivered an energetic display on the flank before being withdrawn in the 53rd minute, with Hutchinson coming on in his place.
Milan dominant in first half
AC Milan controlled the opening exchanges, holding 56 percent possession to keep Atalanta penned in their own half. The deadlock was broken in the 24th minute when Gonçalo Ramos coolly converted from the penalty spot to give the hosts the lead.
Milan kept pressing and stretched their advantage before the interval. In the 43rd minute, Diego Moreira played in Adrien Rabiot, who found the net with a composed finish to send AC Milan into the break with a commanding 2-0 cushion.
Ramos misses penalty but Milan extend lead
The second half opened with Milan handed another chance to put the game out of sight — a second penalty — but Ramos was denied by the goalkeeper this time around.
The miss mattered little in the end. Mario Gila punished Atalanta from open play in the 57th minute, striking to make it 3-0 and seemingly seal the three points for the home side.
Atalanta stage spirited fightback
La Dea refused to go quietly. Gianluca Gaetano reduced the deficit in the 66th minute to breathe life back into the contest, before Nikola Krstović struck in the 81st minute to bring the scoreline to 3-2 and set up a frantic finale.
AC Milan held firm through a nervy closing stretch, absorbing Atalanta's pressure and securing all three points at San Siro — a vital result as Amorim's side continue their Serie A campaign.
