Coventry City Sign Taiwo Awoniyi From Nottingham Forest in Permanent Deal

2 hours ago·1 min

Coventry City have struck a permanent deal to bring Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi to the club from Nottingham Forest, with the 29-year-old now undergoing his medical ahead of completing the transfer.

Awoniyi will reunite with Nigeria international Frank Onyeka at Coventry City, where the pair will work under manager Frank Lampard.

A fresh start after a difficult season

The striker made 17 league appearances for Nottingham Forest last season, contributing four goals and one assist — figures that reflect a campaign disrupted by limited opportunities. He found himself behind Chris Wood and Igor Jesus in the Tricky Trees' attacking pecking order.

Awoniyi originally arrived at Nottingham Forest from Bundesliga club Union Berlin in 2022, but has found consistent minutes increasingly difficult to come by at the City Ground.

The move to Coventry City is expected to hand the forward a platform for regular football and the chance to rediscover the form that made him one of the more exciting Nigerian strikers in European football.
