Coventry Thrash Newcastle 4-1 to Escape Relegation Zone

Coventry City delivered a commanding 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at the CBS Arena on Monday, earning back-to-back Premier League wins and lifting Frank Lampard's side out of the relegation zone.
Jack Rudoni broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 6th minute after goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek brought down summer signing Sidiki Cherif. Newcastle struggled to capitalise on their chances, with Matias Fernandez-Pardo missing two clear opportunities — including a one-on-one that Bobby Thomas cleared off the line.
Coventry made their opponents pay immediately after the break. Cherif, 19, thundered a powerful low drive from just outside the box in the 48th minute to double the advantage — his first goal for the club.
Botman stunner not enough
Sven Botman gave Newcastle brief hope with a spectacular long-range effort in the 70th minute to make it 2-1, but the comeback lasted barely 11 minutes. Substitute Ellis Simms restored the two-goal cushion with a deflected strike in the 81st minute, and fellow substitute Stephen Mfuni sealed a dominant evening with a clinical fourth in the 86th minute — his first senior goal.
Mfuni, 18, joined Coventry on loan from Manchester City during the summer and capped a fine debut season contribution with the finish.
Newcastle suffered a second successive 4-1 away defeat — a damaging run that will concern their management ahead of a home fixture against Aston Villa on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.
Coventry, meanwhile, travel to winless Tottenham next Monday in search of a third consecutive Premier League victory, also broadcast live on Sky Sports.
