Crystal Palace in Talks to Bring Back Guessand on Season-Long Loan

1 hour ago·1 min

Crystal Palace are in talks with Aston Villa over a season-long loan move for Evann Guessand, the 25-year-old Ivory Coast forward who spent the second half of last season at Selhurst Park.

Guessand joined Villa for £26 million in August of last year but struggled to make an impression, managing only two goals in 21 appearances across all competitions. A loan switch to Palace in January proved far more fruitful — he netted his first Premier League goal in a 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers and featured as a substitute in the Conference League final triumph over Rayo Vallecano.

That victory handed Palace their first major trophy, while Guessand also collected a UEFA Europa League winner's medal from his earlier appearances for Villa on their way to lifting that title — making him the rare player to finish the season with two European honours from two different clubs.

The forward went on to represent Ivory Coast at the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer, making two substitute appearances for the Elephants on the international stage.

Despite the positive end to his loan spell, Palace did not exercise an option to sign Guessand permanently at the end of last season, and he reported back to Aston Villa for pre-season training. The two clubs are now in fresh discussions over another temporary arrangement, this time for the full campaign.
