Crystal Palace Sign Takehiro Tomiyasu on Free Transfer After Pre-Season Trial

1 hour ago·1 min

Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Japan international Takehiro Tomiyasu, who joins the club on a free transfer after a successful pre-season trial. The 27-year-old was available at no cost following a spell with Ajax in the second half of last season.

Tomiyasu, who can operate at full-back or centre-back, becomes manager Pierre Sage's second signing since the Frenchman took charge at Selhurst Park. Oscar Mingueza — recruited after his contract at Celta Vigo expired — was Sage's first. The club has not disclosed the length of Tomiyasu's deal.

Filling the gap left by Lacroix

The move addresses a pressing defensive need at Palace following the departure of first-choice centre-back Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea. Tomiyasu brings considerable experience, having made 84 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal between 2021 and 2025, with earlier spells at Bologna and Sint-Truiden.

Tomiyasu was also part of Japan's squad at this summer's World Cup, giving Palace a defender who arrives in form and match-sharp.
