Three clubs secured their places in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup group stage over the weekend — Tunisia's CS Sfaxien, Libya's Al Ahli Tripoli, and Mozambique's Black Bulls — each advancing through contrasting second-leg performances.
Early goal enough for CS Sfaxien
CS Sfaxien entered their home second leg at Taieb Mhiri Stadium in Sfax holding a hard-earned 1-1 draw from Cote d'Ivoire against AF Amadou Diallo. Iyed Belwafi settled any nerves in the seventh minute, putting the three-time Confederation Cup champions 2-1 ahead on aggregate.
Sfaxien held that slim lead for the remainder of the match, booking their group stage place as they chase a record fourth title in the competition.
Al Ahli Tripoli finish in style
Libya's Al Ahli Tripoli arrived at the 11 March Stadium having crushed Ethiopia's Welwalo Adigrat 4-0 in the first leg, making the return fixture a near formality. An early setback arrived when Welwalo Adigrat took the lead after 21 minutes, leaving the hosts trailing at half-time.
Al Ahli responded decisively after the break. DR Congo's Fiston Mayele levelled in the 51st minute, before Ezzedine Mariami put the hosts in front in the 76th minute. Omran Al Tawerghi added a third just two minutes later, and Mouayad Ellafi completed the rout to make it 4-0 on the night — an emphatic 8-1 on aggregate. Coach Hossam El Badry's side advanced with authority.
Black Bulls come from behind — twice
In Matola, Black Bulls needed only a draw to progress after winning 2-0 away at Rayon Sports the previous weekend. Elie Iradukanda gave the Rwandan visitors the lead after 18 minutes, and Rayon Sports went into half-time in front, still dreaming of a comeback.
Cremildo Anuario levelled four minutes into the second half to settle the home side. Akbar Muderi restored Rayon Sports' lead in the 85th minute, keeping the tie alive — but Mouctar Ndiaye struck in the 87th minute to make it 2-2 and seal a 4-1 aggregate victory for Black Bulls, who celebrated a deserved group stage berth.
