Red Bull Salzburg are weighing up a move for Rangers head coach Danny Röhl, with the Austrian Bundesliga club exploring potential replacements for their recently dismissed manager Daniel Beichler.

Röhl, 37, has caught the attention of the Salzburg hierarchy, though it is understood no formal approach has yet been made to Rangers. The Scottish club currently have Röhl under contract through the summer of 2028.

Röhl's impact at Ibrox

The German coach arrived at Ibrox in October 2025, stepping in for Russell Martin with Rangers sitting sixth in the Scottish Premiership. He steadily lifted the side into contention for the title before the campaign faltered in its closing stages, ultimately ending in a third-place finish.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming season, Röhl said he was eager to build on the lessons of his first seven months in charge. Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh has since pledged the club's full support, promising funds for a squad "revamp" and "significant change" to mount a proper title challenge next term.

The Ibrox board's public backing comes despite the reported interest from Salzburg — and Röhl had previously attracted attention from Wolfsburg as well.

A coaching career built at elite clubs

Röhl's rise through the coaching ranks began at RB Leipzig, where he developed under Ralph Hasenhüttl before following him to Southampton in 2018. He then joined Hansi Flick's backroom staff at Bayern Munich in 2019, contributing to the club's Bundesliga title triumph.

His first head coaching role came in October 2023, when he took charge of Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship. He guided the club to safety after inheriting a side that had collected just two points from their opening 10 matches, and then steered them to a 12th-place finish the following season before departing.
