David Okereke Signs for Benevento on Free Transfer Ahead of Fiorentina Cup Clash

1 hour ago·1 min

Nigerian striker David Okereke has completed a free transfer to Serie B side Benevento, agreeing a two-year deal with the newly promoted club that includes an option for a third year.

The 28-year-old was due to undergo his medical on Monday before signing the contract, opening the door to a possible debut against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia as early as Friday.

Benevento chosen over Turkey, MLS, and Sampdoria

Okereke had no shortage of suitors this summer, with clubs from Turkey, Belgium, and Major League Soccer all registering interest, along with fellow Italian outfit Sampdoria. He ultimately opted for Benevento, who sealed their promotion to Serie B last season.

Productive loan spell at Gaziantep

The forward arrives in southern Italy following a loan stint at Turkish Super Lig club Gaziantep, where he delivered a strong campaign — scoring nine goals in 29 league appearances for the Falcons. The former Nigeria U-23 international will be eager to carry that form into his new challenge in Italian football.
