Canada head coach Jesse Marsch has confirmed that Alphonso Davies is expected to be fit and available for selection when his side face South Africa in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 on Sunday.
The two nations meet at Los Angeles Stadium, with kick-off set for 9pm local time, as both sides battle for a place in the Round of 16. Canada are one of the tournament's co-hosts.
Davies used as a decoy
Davies has not played a single minute at this World Cup. The Bayern Munich captain was named on the bench for all three of Canada's group-stage matches but was unable to feature due to a left hamstring strain he picked up towards the end of last season.
Marsch, however, revealed that keeping Davies in the squad was a calculated move designed to keep opponents guessing.
