Deschamps Hails Mbappé's Resilience After Quarter-Final Strike Against Morocco

1 hour ago·1 min

France coach Didier Deschamps has heaped praise on Kylian Mbappé, insisting the forward's self-belief never wavers — even after a first-half penalty miss against Morocco in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final.

Mbappé, who entered the match having already scored seven goals in the tournament, netted a brilliant effort to cancel out his earlier miss and hand France the lead. The Real Madrid striker then turned provider, teeing up Ousmane Dembélé for France's second goal to seal a place in the semi-finals.

The forward was substituted with 13 minutes left after reporting ankle discomfort, though Deschamps confirmed he is not expected to miss the semi-final.

Deschamps on Mbappé's unshakeable confidence

Speaking after the final whistle, Deschamps made clear that neither he nor his players had any doubts about Mbappé despite the missed chances in the opening 45 minutes.
