The Democratic Republic of Congo strengthened their position at the top of TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 qualifying Group E with a 2-1 win over Zimbabwe in Harare on Monday — their second victory from as many matches.

Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso also claimed wins on Matchday 2 of the road to the finals, which will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from 19 June to 17 July 2027.

Wissa fires DR Congo ahead

Yoane Wissa continued his prolific run for the Leopards when he broke the deadlock in the 30th minute. Zimbabwe goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze spilled a cross and Wissa pounced on the loose ball, swivelling to finish.

Wissa then switched from scorer to creator, threading a pass through for Samuel Moutoussamy to run onto and slot home. It was a landmark moment for Moutoussamy — his first international goal — having earned more than 60 caps since making his debut back in 2019.

Zimbabwe refused to be shut out, however. Marshall Munetsi gave the hosts hope when he stabbed home from the back post off a corner deep into stoppage time, his third goal of the qualification campaign already. It was not enough to deny DR Congo all three points.

DR Congo sit top of Group E with a perfect six points. Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea follow on three points each, while Sierra Leone are yet to open their account.

Equatorial Guinea snatch early win in Yaounde

In the group's other fixture, Equatorial Guinea edged Sierra Leone 1-0 in neutral Yaounde. Spanish-born forward Loren Zuniga struck inside the opening minute to hand the Nzalang Nacional an early advantage they never relinquished.

The Leone Stars dominated possession after conceding and carved out several chances, but the equaliser proved elusive as Equatorial Guinea held firm for a valuable three points.

Camara strike sends Burkina Faso top of Group F

Burkina Faso moved to the summit of Group F after defeating Central African Republic 1-0 in neutral Casablanca. Teenager Aboubacar Camara, making only his second senior appearance, scored the decisive goal on the hour mark to seal a deserved victory for the Stallions.

Burkina Faso lead the group with four points from two outings. Central African Republic remain on zero, while Mauritania have three points from one game and Benin sit on one. Mauritania and Benin are set to meet on Tuesday in neutral Abidjan.
