Egypt Demolish Debutants Tanzania 8-0 in TotalEnergies CAF Futsal AFCON Opener

Egypt launched their 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a dominant 8-0 thrashing of tournament debutants Tanzania on Tuesday, at the Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
The Pharaohs — three-time champions having lifted the trophy in 1996, 2000, and 2004 — wasted no time establishing control. Ibrahim Sayed broke the deadlock inside the first minute, and further goals from Mohamed Talaat and a brace from Mohamed Saeed sent Egypt into the interval with a commanding 3-0 lead.
Sayed and Saeed seal the rout
Egypt picked up precisely where they left off after the break. Sayed, who earned the Man of the Match award, added a second to complete his brace, before Saeed matched him to push the tally to 5-0.
Ahmed Aly then chipped in with two goals of his own, and Youssef Elshahed rounded off the scoring to cap a flawless evening for the Pharaohs in the Moroccan capital.
For Tanzania, making their first-ever appearance at the Futsal AFCON, the night offered little to savour as they were outclassed in every phase of the game.
What comes next
Egypt will look to maintain their momentum when they meet Mozambique in Group B on Thursday. Tanzania, meanwhile, face Angola on the same day in search of a much-needed response. The group stage concludes on Saturday, 17 October, with Egypt taking on Angola and Tanzania squaring off against Mozambique.
