Egypt delivered the standout result of Matchday Two in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers, hammering South Sudan 5-0 in Juba to move onto four points in Group B. Morocco and Senegal also won, while Algeria were forced to settle for a draw after being two goals down.

Egypt overwhelm South Sudan

The Pharaohs wasted no time asserting themselves after their opening goalless draw with Angola. Mostafa Zico opened the scoring in the 36th minute — his goal against Angola having been ruled out for offside — to send Egypt into the break ahead.

Omar Marmoush doubled the lead in the 49th minute, and substitute Ibrahim Adel made it 3-0 in the 75th minute. Marmoush then struck again to complete his double before fellow substitute Hamza Abdelkarim added a fifth deep in stoppage time. The seven-time African champions now sit on four points, while South Sudan remain without a point following an earlier 2-1 defeat by Malawi.

Senegal end wait for first Vieira win

Senegal earned their first victory under manager Patrick Vieira, edging Ethiopia 1-0 in Group J. Ibrahim Mbaye struck after just 11 minutes, turning home a pass from Nicolas Jackson to give the Lions of Teranga a lead they never relinquished.

Ethiopia pushed hard after the interval, but Senegal defended resolutely. Jackson was withdrawn in the closing stages, with Pape Moussa Fall introduced in the 89th minute, before Mbaye also made way in stoppage time. The win moves Senegal onto four points. Ethiopia, who also lost 1-0 to Sudan on Matchday One, are still without a point.

Morocco march on with second clean sheet

Morocco extended their perfect start in Group A with a 2-0 victory over Lesotho, making it six points from two matches without conceding a single goal.

Brahim Diaz broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time after a patient Atlas Lions display against a resolute Lesotho side. Substitutes Abdessamad Ezzalzouli and Soufiane Rahimi injected pace after the break, and it was Rahimi who set up Azzedine Ounahi to seal the win in the 82nd minute. Mohamed Ouahbi's side had opened their campaign with a 2-0 home win over Gabon and have now scored four and conceded none across their first two qualifiers.

Algeria escape with a point in Burundi

Algeria's unbeaten run survived a serious scare in Group I, as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 away to Burundi. The hosts flew out of the blocks, with Algeria midfielder Farès Chaïbi credited with an own goal in the 5th minute before Jean Girumugisha doubled the advantage in the 12th minute.

Mohamed El Amine Belloumi pulled one back in the 30th minute, giving the Desert Foxes a lifeline before the interval. Himad Abdelli was then forced off injured shortly before half-time, adding to Algeria's difficulties. Adil Boulbina eventually restored parity in the 63rd minute to complete the comeback. Algeria have four points after two matches following their opening 3-1 win over Zambia; Burundi claim their first point of the campaign after opening with a 1-0 defeat by Togo.

Mozambique put four past Sudan

Mozambique strengthened their Group J standing with a 4-1 home win over Sudan. Witi gave the Mambas the lead in the 24th minute, and Chamito doubled it almost immediately after the restart. Guima added a third in the 58th minute, before Chamito struck again four minutes later to complete his double.

Sudan grabbed a late consolation through Yaser Hamed's penalty in the 88th minute, but the damage was already done. Mozambique move onto four points; Sudan remain on three. Group J is now tightly contested, with Mozambique, Senegal, and Sudan all within a point of each other after two matches.

Comoros edge Namibia

Comoros secured their first points of the campaign with a 1-0 win over Namibia in Group G. Benjaloud Youssouf struck in the 54th minute to settle a tight contest and give Comoros three points after their opening 3-1 loss to Cameroon. Namibia, who began with a 1-0 win over Congo, could not find a way through despite second-half changes. Comoros, Namibia, and Cameroon are all level on three points, though Cameroon have a game in hand.
