Elliot Anderson Joins Manchester City in £116 Million Club-Record Deal

Elliot Anderson is set to become a Manchester City player after the club agreed a £116 million fee with Nottingham Forest — a figure that shatters the Cityzens' previous club record and edges close to the British transfer record.
The England midfielder is currently undergoing his medical in the United States, where he is on duty with the Three Lions at the 2026 World Cup. David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that the medical was scheduled for Friday morning, ahead of England's Group L fixture against Panama.
A record-breaking price tag
The £116 million fee surpasses the £100 million Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish, making Anderson the most expensive signing in the club's history — even as the Cityzens depart the Pep Guardiola era having won six of nine available Premier League titles.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the figure via X, noting that the deal carries no financial add-ons or bonus clauses. The Telegraph also reported the same £116 million fixed price.
However, Nottingham Forest's position complicates the picture. Transfer expert Ben Jacobs has reported that Forest believe the total deal is worth up to £130 million, which would potentially dethrone Liverpool's Alexander Isak — signed for £125 million — as the holder of the British transfer record. For now, that distinction remains unresolved.
Filling the gaps at the Etihad
Anderson's arrival addresses two significant departures for Manchester City heading into the 2026/27 season. Guardiola will no longer be at the helm, with Enzo Maresca understood to be the frontrunner to take charge. The club also faces the exit of veteran midfielder Bernardo Silva.
Anderson's performances at the 2026 World Cup have accelerated his stock considerably. The former Nottingham Forest man has been one of the standout players in the England squad, demonstrating exactly the kind of dynamic midfield play that City will require as they look to remain competitive without their legendary manager.
Manchester City finished as Premier League runners-up in 2025/26, while also claiming the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. The Anderson signing signals their intent to challenge once more under new leadership.
