England Secure World Cup Knockout Spot Before Panama Decider

England have secured a place in the World Cup knockout rounds before their final Group C fixture against Panama on Saturday, after Uruguay's defeat by Spain confirmed the Three Lions' progression to the last 32.
Gareth Southgate's side — now sitting on four points from two matches — are guaranteed at least one of the eight available third-place qualification spots. England opened their campaign with a 4-2 victory over Croatia before being held to a goalless draw by Ghana on Tuesday.
Injury concerns cloud Panama preparations
Manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Declan Rice and Reece James are both doubts for Saturday's fixture. James, 26, picked up a hamstring problem during the draw with Ghana and has already been ruled out of the Panama game.
Rice, who was seen leaving Boston Stadium on Tuesday with strapping on his left calf, was absent from England's training session in Kansas City on Thursday, raising further concern over his availability.
The wider group picture
England are not alone on four points. Sweden, Ecuador, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Paraguay all share the same tally, with four groups — including England's — still to complete their fixtures. The final standings will determine which third-placed sides advance alongside the group winners and runners-up.
Saturday's clash with Panama now carries less pressure in terms of qualification, though England will be eager to seal top spot and avoid a difficult last-32 draw.
