Enyimba registered their first victory of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season on matchday, dismantling Shooting Stars 4-2 at home in an emphatic performance.

Richard Ezinna broke the deadlock as early as the 6th minute, capitalising on a defensive error from the visiting side. Chibueze Damian doubled the advantage in the 28th minute with a thunderous long-range effort that left the goalkeeper with no chance.

The People's Elephant continued to dominate and made it three before half-time — Idris Abubakar calmly converting after Odinaka Obichere provided the assist. Four minutes into the second half, Ifeanyi Ihemekwele added a fourth to put the result beyond any doubt.

Shooting Stars pulled two goals back in the closing stages — substitute Mustapha Adams Agba'a reduced the deficit in the 76th minute, and Johnmark Aule added a second for the visitors in added time — but the fight-back came far too late to threaten Enyimba's winning margin.

Rangers go top

Defending champions Rangers are now top of the NPFL standings after a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Warri Wolves in Ozoro. Godwin Obaje, one of Nigerian football's most experienced forwards, converted a penalty in the 11th minute to claim all three points and send Rangers to the summit.

Rivers United held, Lagos derby ends goalless

At the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Rivers United were denied maximum points after Katsina United fought back to earn a 1-1 draw. Samson Olasupo gave Rivers United the lead two minutes after the restart, but Sani Mubarak levelled with a well-taken free-kick just three minutes later.

In Lagos, Sporting Lagos and Ikorodu City cancelled each other out in a goalless local derby at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, leaving both sides to settle for a point apiece.
