Como head coach Cesc Fàbregas has admitted he made a mistake by instructing his players to slow the game down in the closing stages of their stunning 4-1 victory over Manchester United.

The win marked one of the most remarkable results of the season, with Como — a newly promoted side — dismantling a struggling Manchester United with a commanding performance. Yet, despite the emphatic scoreline, Fàbregas revealed he had told his squad to conserve energy as the final whistle approached.

The Como manager now says he regrets that decision, suggesting his team had the capacity to inflict even greater damage on a Manchester United side that has endured a difficult campaign.

The result stands as a statement win for Como and a fresh low point for Manchester United, whose form continues to draw scrutiny.
