FIFA has reversed course on its original half-time show plans for the World Cup 2026 final, capping the intermission at 17 minutes — just two minutes longer than a standard half-time break.

The announcement comes as a significant relief to both Spain and Argentina, the two finalists, whose coaching staffs had raised serious concerns about a potentially extended break disrupting their players' rhythm and causing them to cool down before the second half.

An 11-minute performance with a star-studded lineup

Of the 17 minutes, 11 will be dedicated to a musical performance featuring Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, and BTS. The remaining six minutes will be used to assemble and dismantle the stage.

The show marks the first half-time entertainment performance in World Cup final history — a landmark moment for the tournament, which has expanded to 48 teams across 16 host cities in three host countries for this edition.

Relief after Club World Cup concerns

Earlier fears had centred on the possibility of a Super Bowl-style production stretching the break to as long as 30 minutes. Those concerns were amplified by the 24-minute intermission experienced at the 2025 Club World Cup, which drew criticism from managers and players alike.

Spanish newspaper Marca first reported the revised 17-minute figure, providing reassurance that FIFA had listened to the concerns raised by both sets of staff.

To help players maintain their physical readiness, teams will still have access to exercise bikes on the sideline throughout the break.

The ceremony will also pay tribute to all 48 nations that competed in this summer's expanded tournament, marking the conclusion of a historic edition of the World Cup.
