FIFA Dismisses Claims That Ball Struck Camera Wire Before Bellingham's Equaliser

1 hour ago·1 min

FIFA has firmly rejected suggestions that England's equalising goal against Norway in the World Cup quarterfinals was invalid due to the ball making contact with an overhead camera wire.

Television footage appeared to show a goal kick clipping what looked like a wire suspended above the pitch moments before Jude Bellingham converted to level the match on Saturday.

Despite the visual evidence circulating on social media and prompting widespread debate among supporters, FIFA moved quickly to deny that any such contact affected the legitimacy of the goal.

Bellingham's strike handed England a route back into the contest and ignited the atmosphere at a tense World Cup quarterfinal, with the outcome of the match hanging in the balance after the goal.
