FIFA World Cup 2026 Breaks All-Time Daily Attendance Record

10 hours ago·1 min

The FIFA World Cup 2026 has made history just six days into the tournament, with a record 281,223 fans passing through stadium turnstiles on 16 June — surpassing the previous single-day record of 277,070 set on 28 June 1994.

The milestone came on a day that featured four group-stage matches: France v. Senegal, Iraq v. Norway, Argentina v. Algeria, and Austria v. Jordan. The 1994 record also stood after a four-match day, making the comparison a direct one.

Cumulative attendance on course for history

After six matchdays, total attendance at this edition of the FIFA World Cup has reached 1,309,652, with an average of 65,483 fans per game. FIFA says the tournament is on track to surpass the all-time cumulative attendance record of 3.5 million — established at the 1994 FIFA World Cup — before the group stage even concludes.
