Friedkin Group Opens Everton to Potential Sale After Stabilising Club's Future

The Friedkin Group has announced it is exploring the potential sale of Everton Football Club, declaring that "the time is right" to open a new chapter in the club's history.
The American-led group, headed by billionaire Dan Friedkin, completed its full acquisition of Everton in December 2024, bringing an end to Farhad Moshiri's lengthy ownership of the Merseyside club.
A foundation built before the exit
In a statement released on Friday, the group outlined the circumstances that prompted the move, pointing to the instability it inherited when it first took control.
"When TFG became custodians of Everton, the club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch. The immediate priority was to provide the stability, investment and support needed to secure the club's future, including helping to bring the long-promised stadium to completion for its deserving supporters."
The group says that with those foundations now firmly established, it believes the conditions are in place for new ownership to take the club forward.
Only the right stewards need apply
The Friedkin Group has been clear that it will not entertain just any offer — insisting it will engage only with parties it considers to be the "right stewards to take the club forward and build on the momentum that has been established."
The statement also offered reassurance that day-to-day operations and community commitments will not be disrupted during the process.
"Throughout this process, TFG's focus will remain unchanged. We will support the club in all ways necessary to achieve success on the pitch and will continue efforts to make a positive difference in the communities the club serves."
The group confirmed that neither it nor the club would be making further public comment while the review is ongoing.
