Galatasaray Seal Deal for Ugochukwu in €30 Million Move From Burnley
Galatasaray have wrapped up an agreement with Sky Bet Championship club Burnley to sign midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu in a deal worth just under €30 million, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.
Romano announced the completion of the move on X, writing:
"Here we go, confirmed: Lesley Ugochukwu will sign his contract at Galatasaray shortly. Deal worth under €30m package from Burnley for the midfielder."
The 22-year-old Nigerian-born midfielder becomes one of the Turkish Super Lig champions' most expensive acquisitions of the summer window, and is expected to complete formalities and be unveiled by the Istanbul club imminently.
A winding road to Turkey
Ugochukwu began his senior career at Stade Rennais, graduating from their celebrated academy to make his debut in Ligue 1 as a teenager. His composed displays in midfield drew widespread attention across Europe and earned him a transfer to Chelsea in 2023.
After spending the 2024/25 season on loan at Southampton — where he accumulated Premier League experience — Ugochukwu returned to Chelsea before the west London club sold him to Burnley last summer. He put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Turf Moor following the Clarets' promotion back to the top flight, yet the move to Turkey now arrives less than a year later.
What Ugochukwu brings to Galatasaray
Manager Okan Buruk is expected to use the midfielder's athleticism, physical presence, and composure on the ball as Galatasaray prepare to defend their domestic crown and make their mark in the UEFA Champions League next season.
The arrival of Ugochukwu signals Galatasaray's intent to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts, with the Turkish giants investing heavily once again ahead of a demanding campaign.
