Godwin Obaje Reaches 100 NPFL Goals as Rangers Celebrate Historic Milestone

2 hours ago·2 min

Godwin Obaje has etched his name into Nigeria Premier Football League history, becoming the first player to score 100 goals in the competition — and he did it in the most decisive fashion possible.

The Rangers striker converted from the penalty spot in the 11th minute to hand his side a 1-0 away win over Warri Wolves in Ozoro, Delta State on Wednesday, with that spot-kick simultaneously marking his 100th NPFL goal.

Rangers honour a legend

The club wasted no time in marking the occasion, taking to X to salute Obaje's achievement. "History made in Delta State. Godwin Obaje's winning penalty marks his 100th goal in the Nigerian Premier Football League! A legendary milestone for a top marksman," the club wrote.

The 30-year-old's journey to this landmark has spanned more than a decade of professional football. He launched his career with Wikki Tourists in 2014 before going on to represent Ifeanyi Ubah FC, Plateau United, and Abia Warriors — clubs that have since shaped some of the NPFL's most competitive eras.

A career built across continents

Obaje's ambitions took him beyond Nigerian borders, with spells at clubs in Slovakia, Tunisia, Ethiopia, and Oman broadening his experience. Yet it is on home soil where his legacy is most deeply rooted.

His finest individual season came in 2016, when he finished as the NPFL's top scorer with 18 goals — a campaign that announced him as one of the division's most lethal forwards.

Wednesday's milestone goal only reinforces that standing. With a century of league goals now behind him, Obaje has secured his place among the most prolific strikers in the history of Nigerian club football.
