Haaland Injury Doubt Adds to Man City's Woes Ahead of Anfield Showdown

55 minutes ago·2 min

Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday October 11, in what promises to be one of the most charged Premier League fixtures of the season — with kick-off set for 4.30pm UK time, live on Sky Sports from 4pm.

City's turbulent week

Manchester City arrive at Anfield under a cloud after an independent commission found them guilty of all charges relating to serious breaches of Premier League financial rules between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons. City continue to deny the charges and submitted an appeal against the commission's verdict last Thursday.

Despite the off-field turmoil, Enzo Maresca's side have been ruthless on the pitch, winning all five of their opening league matches to sit three points clear of Arsenal entering the weekend — a 100-per-cent start to the new campaign.

Liverpool's unbeaten run

Liverpool sit sixth in the table, six points behind City, but Andoni Iraola's side remain unbeaten in the league. They have won two and drawn three of their first five fixtures under the Spaniard, and will be eager to close the gap at the top.

Injury concerns for both sides

The international break has left both managers with selection headaches. Erling Haaland limped out of Norway's defeat to Portugal on Sunday and is being assessed ahead of the Anfield showdown. Phil Foden is also unavailable, serving a suspension following his red card in the Manchester derby. Nico O'Reilly and Antoine Semenyo returned early from their respective international squads with injury concerns.

Liverpool are also counting the cost of the break. Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo both returned to the club early — Isak nursing a thigh injury and Gakpo an ankle problem. Jeremy Jacquet was absent from France's win over Belgium with a suspected hamstring issue. Both Iraola and Maresca are expected to provide further team news at their pre-match press conferences later in the week.
