Erling Haaland's first-half goal was enough to give Manchester City a 1-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, leaving the visitors rooted to the foot of the Premier League table after three straight defeats.

Nigeria internationals Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka both started for Coventry under manager Frank Lampard, but neither could help their side find an equaliser. Onyeka was withdrawn in the 63rd minute, with Awoniyi following him off the pitch in the 71st minute.

The result leaves Coventry without a point from their opening three top-flight fixtures — a difficult start to life back in the Premier League.

City maintain perfect start

For Manchester City, the win keeps Enzo Maresca's side at the summit of the Premier League, with three wins from three matches and a maximum nine points accumulated so far.

Fulham fall to Crystal Palace

Elsewhere, Fulham suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage, with Nigerian duo Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey both featuring for the hosts. Bassey played the full 90 minutes, while Iwobi was substituted with seven minutes remaining.

Joshua King put Fulham ahead in the 11th minute, but Tyrick Mitchell levelled for Palace on 35 minutes. Cesar Palacios restored Fulham's lead just before half-time to make it 2-1.

Mitchell struck again in the 54th minute to level at 2-2, before former Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell completed the turnaround with Palace's winning goal. Like Coventry, Fulham have now lost all three of their opening fixtures and sit 19th in the table.

Other results

Nottingham Forest, featuring Nigeria's Ola Aina, were held to a goalless draw by Tottenham Hotspur. Brighton, without Zadok Yohanna, shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Leeds United.
