Kai Havertz has declared himself in peak condition heading into the new campaign, telling Arsenal's official media he feels strong and is ready to contribute after netting the opening goal in the Gunners' commanding 4-1 pre-season win over Girona.
The Germany international was upbeat about the team's display, pointing to the combinations and understanding already on show among the squad. "You saw already the connections we had on the pitch. It was a good test for us against a good team and I think we played strong. We need to continue like that now," he said.
Havertz was also candid about his own physical state, revealing he returned from the break without losing much sharpness. "I feel like I had three weeks off. I think I didn't lose too much and I feel good, feel strong and I'm ready to go," he added.
Understanding Viktor Gyokeres
One of the most encouraging signs from pre-season has been Havertz's developing partnership with striker Viktor Gyokeres. The German midfielder insists the combination feels natural, crediting his own experience leading the line for his quick understanding of his new teammate's movement.
"I think he's easy to play with because I know which runs he wants and where he wants the pass. I've been on that striker position as well a lot of times, so I understand him quite well," Havertz explained.
He was equally effusive about the broader relationship with Gyokeres, both on and off the pitch. "We have a top connection on and off the pitch, so that helps as well. I think he's one of the best strikers in the world, and to play with him is very easy."
Trophies the only target
Beyond individual fitness and partnerships, Havertz was clear about the collective ambition driving the group this season. Arsenal are targeting every available trophy, and after ending a 22-year wait to lift the league title, the Gunners are determined to push on rather than settle.
The weight of successive runner-up finishes has lifted, and with a squad that already looks cohesive in pre-season, Arsenal head into the new campaign with purpose and hunger. Havertz, for one, appears determined to be at the heart of it.
