Henderson Double and Pedro Brace Power Chelsea to Stunning 5-1 Rout of Bournemouth

1 hour ago·2 min

Chelsea dismantled Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, climbing to fifth in the Premier League table with a performance that mixed stunning individual brilliance with a ruthless collective edge.

Jordan Henderson set the tone within 65 seconds, whipping a spectacular shot in off the post after Cole Palmer's incisive run into the box. It was an electric opener — and Chelsea were only getting started.

Dream start turns into a nightmare for Bournemouth

Barely a minute later, Henderson turned provider. Morgan Rogers let fly with a shot that deflected off Antonio Silva and looped into the far corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. Just 2 minutes and 29 seconds had elapsed — the earliest Chelsea have ever led 2-0 in a Premier League match.

Bournemouth had chances to threaten before the interval. Rayan was through on goal in the 36th minute but was denied by a brilliant one-on-one stop from Emi Martinez, who also reacted quickly to smother Ryan Christie's follow-up from 25 yards.

The visitors failed to heed those warnings. Thirty seconds into the second half, Antonio Silva's error handed Pedro Neto the ball on the edge of the area, and the winger cut it back for a fit-again Joao Pedro to slam home Chelsea's third.

Evanilson gives brief hope before late goals seal it

Bournemouth pulled one back in the 51st minute when Evanilson blocked Moises Caicedo's attempted clearance from a corner into his own net, and a brief spell of anxiety gripped Stamford Bridge. It proved short-lived.

Pep Chavarria delivered a precise first-time ball across the face of goal in the 67th minute, and Joao Pedro was on hand to tap in his second of the afternoon and restore the four-goal cushion.

Henderson then produced the moment of the match. With Palmer on the ground after being fouled 25 yards out, everyone expected the England international to step up and curl the free-kick. Instead, Henderson stepped across and bent an exquisite strike into the top corner in the 70th minute — a goal to match his opener in quality.

Alonso's Chelsea building momentum

The victory represents a significant bounce-back for Xabi Alonso's side, who had suffered a heavy defeat at Brentford before the international break. With a defining stretch of fixtures on the horizon, Saturday's display — in both attacking intent and sheer goalscoring variety — will sharpen the belief that Chelsea are genuine top-four contenders this season.

Earlier in the day, Palmer had signed a contract extension with the club, and he was central to much of what went right for the hosts. At 36, Henderson showed that veteran quality still has a role to play in Alonso's project.
