Hundreds Arrested and Police Injured After Champions League Celebrations Turn Violent in France

At least 219 people were injured in clashes between football fans and police across France after Paris Saint-Germain claimed the UEFA Champions League title against Arsenal, with Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirming that 780 individuals had been arrested — more than 450 of whom remained in custody.
Eight of the injured were left in a serious condition, while 57 of those hurt were police officers who had been deployed to contain the unrest. Transport services in Paris were disrupted, with bus, train, and rail lines all affected by the disorder.
Ring road blocked, one person dead
One person died following an accident on Paris's ring road after rioters attempted to block the route overnight. The incident added a grim dimension to a night of widespread disorder across the French capital and other cities.
Thousands of officers deployed
Authorities mobilised thousands of officers in response to the violence. Ahead of Sunday's victory parade near the Eiffel Tower, some 6,000 police were placed on duty to ensure the event passed without further incident.
Nuñez was firm in his assessment of those responsible, drawing a clear line between genuine Paris Saint-Germain supporters and those he said came solely to cause trouble.
