Arsenal icon Ian Wright has called for Manchester City to face an unprecedented punishment following the independent commission's landmark ruling that found the club guilty of the vast majority of financial breaches brought against them by the Premier League.

Speaking on ITV, Wright did not hold back, describing the violations as cheating on an industrial scale and arguing that routine penalties would fall far short of what the situation demands.

"It's cheating on an industrial scale. It's quite surreal seeing it written down like that. You can't mention City without mentioning what's going on because they were so great. I feel like an unprecedented punishment is required here," Wright said.

The commission's findings revealed that Manchester City allegedly used disguised funding arrangements to artificially inflate revenues and suppress costs by more than £900 million across a nine-season period — a revelation Wright described as astonishing in its scope.

Wright also reflected on the broader implications for English football, acknowledging the enormous institutional weight of the case.

"It's a massive day for the Premier League, they've taken on a whole country. It's going to get so litigious now, I think it's going to go on for so long. It's so sad," he added.

The former Arsenal striker pointed to the human cost felt by rival clubs, highlighting Liverpool under Jürgen Klopp as a side that pushed Manchester City to the absolute limit while competing under different financial conditions.
