Iheanacho Nets in 10th Straight Game as Bursaspor Fall to Last-Gasp Defeat

Kelechi Iheanacho continued his remarkable scoring run, netting in his 10th consecutive match for club and country — yet it was not enough to prevent Bursaspor from suffering a 2-1 home defeat against Mardin 1969 Spor in the Turkish TFF 1. Lig on Sunday.
A dramatic turnaround in stoppage time
Bursaspor fell behind in the 21st minute when Tonio Teklic put Mardin 1969 Spor ahead. Iheanacho pulled the hosts level in the 81st minute with a superb strike from outside the penalty area, raising hopes of at least a point.
Those hopes were extinguished deep into stoppage time, however, when Zdravko Dimitrov struck in the 90+4' to hand the visitors a dramatic winner and leave Bursaspor empty-handed.
Iheanacho's staggering individual form
The goal extended Iheanacho's streak to nine consecutive games for Bursaspor alone in the Turkish First League. When combined with his effort for Nigeria — he opened the scoring in the Super Eagles' recent 3-3 draw against Russia in Nizhny Novgorod — the former Manchester City and Leicester City forward has now found the net in 10 straight matches across all competitions this season.
His overall tally for Bursaspor stands at 14 goal contributions: 12 goals and two assists. With the club having scored 17 goals in the 2026–27 campaign, Iheanacho has been directly involved in 82.4 percent of them — a staggering figure that underlines just how central he has become to the side.
In scoring nine games in a row for Bursaspor, Iheanacho has already surpassed the club's previous consecutive scoring record, which had been held by Fernandao from the 2014/15 season.
Table picture and what comes next
The defeat leaves Bursaspor on 19 points, three adrift of league leaders Kayserispor. The club's next fixture is an away trip to Muğlaspor on Thursday, 15 October.
Iheanacho joined Bursaspor on a free transfer in the summer of 2026 following his departure from Celtic, where he had been part of the squad that claimed both the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Cup double.
