Ikorodu City's Adeoye on Trial at Middlesbrough Ahead of Potential Championship Move

2 hours ago·1 min

Ikorodu City midfielder Aderemi Adeoye is on trial at Sky Bet Championship side Middlesbrough, with a summer transfer in the works, according to reports from Completesports.com.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder joined Ikorodu City in January and swiftly established himself as a key figure for the Lagos-based club. His impressive performances earned him a place in Nigeria's squad for the Unity Cup invitational tournament in May, where he made two substitute appearances for the Super Eagles.

Transfermarkt currently values Adeoye at €50,000, but Ikorodu City are expected to hold out for a significantly higher fee before sanctioning his departure.

A potential landmark signing

Should the deal go through, Adeoye would become the latest in a line of Nigerian players to represent Middlesbrough — a list that includes Yakubu, John Obi Mikel, Kenneth Omeruo, and Kelechi Iheanacho.

A successful move would also shine a fresh spotlight on the Nigeria Premier Football League as a talent pipeline capable of producing players ready for European football. The NPFL has drawn increasing attention from clubs abroad in recent seasons, and Adeoye's trial represents another step in that growing recognition.
