Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Japan winger Daizen Maeda from Celtic on a three-year deal worth £10 million, as the newly promoted Premier League club bolster their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

A proven scorer at the highest level

Maeda leaves Glasgow having made a significant mark on Scottish football. In four seasons with Celtic, he scored 79 goals and collected ten major honours — including five Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups, and two League Cups.

He endured a difficult start to last season but hit top form at the crucial moment, netting nine goals in Celtic's final seven matches to help the Hoops secure a league and cup double.

The winger had long made clear his ambition to play in the Premier League, and he now gets that opportunity with Ipswich Town, who earned promotion back to England's top flight ahead of this season.

World Cup form underlines his credentials

Maeda also caught the eye on the global stage this summer, scoring for Japan at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Japan reached the last 32 of the tournament before being eliminated by Brazil.

That showing reinforced the belief that Maeda, who first moved to Celtic under then-manager Ange Postecoglou in 2022, is ready to compete at the highest level of English football.

Tractor Boys eye strong start

Ipswich Town open their Premier League campaign at home to Sunderland on August 22, with Maeda expected to feature prominently in their plans from the outset.
