Andoni Iraola has put pen to paper on a two-year contract as the new Liverpool head coach — a deliberate, principled choice that runs counter to the growing trend of lengthy managerial deals across the Premier League.
The appointment of the former Bournemouth manager stands in sharp contrast to agreements such as the one Chelsea handed Liam Rosenior, who signed a six-and-a-half-year deal at the club before departing just three months into his tenure.
Earning the right every season
Iraola has been vocal about his preference for short-term contracts. Speaking to BBC Radio Solent last year, the Spaniard made clear that mutual satisfaction — not contractual obligation — should be the foundation of any manager-club relationship.
