Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has been sent back to his club after sustaining a minor injury during Sweden's international break fixtures. He will miss the country's remaining three matches and will undergo assessment by Liverpool's medical team.

Isak had featured prominently before his withdrawal — playing the full 90 minutes and netting in Sweden's 2-1 Nations League victory over Romania on Friday. The injury emerged after that match, prompting his early return to Merseyside.

Strong start to the season

The 27-year-old has hit the ground running at Liverpool this term, registering four goals in five Premier League appearances. That form will offer the club some reassurance as they await the full extent of his setback.

His debut campaign at Liverpool was disrupted by injury and he managed only 14 Premier League starts, scoring three goals — a significant underperformance given the £125 million Liverpool paid Newcastle United to secure his services.

With Isak now showing the kind of consistency that justified that fee, Liverpool will be eager to have him back fit as quickly as possible ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
