ITV Unveils Broadcast Team for South Africa vs Canada World Cup Opener

2 hours ago·1 min

ITV will carry live coverage of the first knockout fixture of the FIFA World Cup 2026, as South Africa face Canada in the round of 32 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Kick-off is scheduled for midday local time — 8pm UK time — on Sunday, with ITV's broadcast beginning at 7:15pm. The match marks a historic occasion for both nations, neither of whom has previously advanced beyond the group stage of a World Cup.

How the two sides got here

Canada finished second in Group B behind Switzerland, accumulating four points across three matches. Their campaign included a commanding 6-0 victory over Qatar.

South Africa secured their place in the knockout round with a 1-0 win against South Korea in their final group game. The result came after Bafana Bafana suffered a defeat to Mexico and earned a late draw against the Czech Republic in Group A.

ITV's presenting and punditry line-up

Laura Woods will anchor the show from ITV's studio in Brooklyn, which offers striking views of the Manhattan skyline. She will be joined by pundits Bradley Wright-Phillips, Karen Carney, and Karen for analysis ahead of and after the match.

Sunday's game is the only round-of-32 fixture scheduled for the day, making it the sole focus of ITV's World Cup coverage that evening.
