Alex Iwobi was named Man of the Match after an outstanding display in Nigeria's 2–1 comeback victory over Madagascar in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Goals from debutant George Ilenikhena and substitute Moses Usor completed the turnaround, but it was Iwobi's movement, vision, and control at the heart of midfield that laid the foundation for the Super Eagles' recovery.

Dictating the tempo

Madagascar took the lead in the first half, but Iwobi immediately set about orchestrating Nigeria's response. He constantly found space between the lines, stitching together the midfield and attack with composed, precise passing.

His most influential contribution before the break was a beautifully weighted pass that sent Ilenikhena through to slot home the equaliser and swing momentum firmly back towards the hosts.

Alongside captain Wilfred Ndidi in the second half, Iwobi grew even more influential, controlling the rhythm of the contest and driving the sustained pressure that ultimately unlocked Madagascar's defence. That relentless intensity created the conditions for Usor's match-winning solo effort.
